An Instrument of Peace

By sloondabloon

My most favourite prayer … Beautiful in its simplicity and strong in its message. My greatest challenge in life

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not seek so much
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

– St. Francis of Assisi (1181–1226)

    hmm i do like this…this was my school anthem starting as “Make me a channel of your peace and i always liked the line
    “O Father grant that I may not seek so much
    to be consoled as to console,
    to be understood as to understand,
    to be loved as to love.”

    Somehow I have stopped praying for myself. Sometimes I pray for others and for myself I just a thanks. Looks like the ‘thanks’ can be expanded to this prayer.

    Amen.

    My prayers are in a different form nowadays.

    Oh Lord of mine
    I know of your presence
    But when I need you I get your absence
    I pray for you to be the maker of reality
    And not figments of some man’s creativity
